I started oil painting as a hobby, which took me to obsession to express myself on canvas in 2008 and since then have been learning and painting. Oil painting is a process of painting with pigments that are bound with a medium of drying oil mostly purified linseed oil for its glossy finish. All of my oil paintings unless specified are on fixed canvas boards of repute manufacturers primed with acrylic for longer durability. If you look at the word ‘Painting’ it literally means the practice of applying color to a surface such as canvas, paper, wood, glass, lacquer or concrete. I started as self taught artist and later started having formal education from various artists first in Thapsiya School of Art and now have previledge to learn from renowned artist Mr Elangovan. Abstract oil painting took to my obsession and am inspired by abstraction in the nature, in clouds, in leaves, in women in myself...every where I see abstract celebration.
The art of India intertwines with the cultural history, religions and philosophies, folk and tribal art in India takes on different manifestations through varied medium such as pottery, painting, metalwork, paper-art, weaving and designing of objects such as jewelery and toys. I have tried learning few of these art forms and have been practising them on hand made paper. Often puranic gods and legends are transformed into contemporary forms and familiar images. Fairs, festivals, and local deities play a vital role in these arts.
The origins of Madhubani painting or Mithila Painting is dated to time of the Ramayana, when King Janak commissioned artists to do paintings at the time of marriage of his daughter,Sita to Lord Ram. Madhubani painting has been done traditionally by the women of villages around the present town of Madhubani (the literal meaning of which is forests of honey) and other areas of Mithila. The painting was traditionally done on freshly plastered mud wall of huts, but now it is also done on cloth, hand-made paper and canvas. Madhubani painting, is characterized by line drawings filled in by bright colours and contrasts or patterns inspired by the urge of Invocation of holy spirits, the divine power the God and their creation of blissful nature, flora and fauna, the animals, birds, fishes.
Warli folk paintings are the painting of Maharashtra. Warli is the name of the largest tribe found on the northern outskirts of Mumbai, in Western India. The word “ Warli” comes from “warla” which means a piece of land or a field. Warli paintings express everyday life using extremely basic object forms and just one colour - white - on an austere mud base. The painting style is close to pre-historic cave paintings. These paintings as in most of tribal art do not depict mythological characters or images of deities, but depict social life. Images of human beings and animals, along with scenes from daily life are created in a loose rhythmic pattern. Each painting is usually an entire scene that contains various elements of nature including people, animals, trees, hills etc. usually depicting scenes of human figures engaged in activities like hunting, dancing, sowing ,harvesting, going out, drawing water from well, drying clothes , dancing.
